Rees Jones designed this tree-lined layout in 1974 to feature moderate fairway bunkering and well-positioned greens. Jones' intricate design uses the most of its natural hazards, which force golfers to think on almost every shot. Tee it up from the tips and you'll quickly understand why Arcadian Shores is still one of the toughest courses in Myrtle Beach. Arcadian Shores is set within Kingston Plantation, close to great hotels, restaurants, shops, and more.

Raymond Floyd and Tom Jackson teamed up to design this unique 27-hole layout. The Lakes nine features sloping fairways and plenty of water hazards demanding precise shot making; The Waterway works its way along the Intracoastal with wide fairways, large greens, and elevated tee boxes; The Cypress is set amongst a Carolina hardwood wetland and features bulk-headed greens and vast waste areas. The Bald Head Island course is a seaside masterpiece located on the southernmost of the North Carolina Cape Islands. Like the links courses in Ireland and Scotland, seven holes on the course stretch across rolling dunes overlooking the ocean. The balance of the course wraps around fifteen fresh water lakes and winds through a maritime forest. Laid out by Gene Hamm in 1968, Beachwood has consistently provided one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf available in North Myrtle. With four sets of tees, players have their choice of making the course as difficult as they would like. However, lurking water hazards and well-placed bunkers are as easily found from the front tees as they are from the tips.

The pros at Black Bear invite you to "take a walk on the wild side." The beautiful Tom Jackson parkland-style design was sculpted out of a dense land full of hardwoods and pines. There are no homes on the property, providing a pure golf experience without any outside distractions. With top notch course conditions, a popular grillroom, and great customer service, Black Bear is one of the most enjoyable courses in Myrtle Beach. Managed by Classic Golf Group, this terrific course is rated 3 1/2 stars by Golf Digest's "Places to Play."

Gary Player's first course in Myrtle Beach is an outstanding one. It's so good that the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association named it the "2001 Golf Course of the Year." Taking advantage of the natural terrain and exciting vistas, Player designed a course with fun in mind. Blackmoor offers a perfect mix of holes - some with wide-open fairways, others winding through thick stands of native trees and bending around lakes.

Named "2006 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year" by the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association, Burning Ridge is one of six clubs managed by Classic Golf Group. Formerly known as Burning Ridge East (the West has been closed), this great layout is a test for all golfers with generous landing areas off the tee and well-protected greens. Gene Hamm's design provides an exciting risk-reward element to the game for aggressive players. Located in central Myrtle Beach, this course is accessible from all points along the Grand Strand.

Farmstead has gained recognition for its mammoth par-six 18th hole. Yes, you read that right, a par six! The tee box on the 767-yard hole is set in South Carolina, and the green is actually in North Carolina. Is it a gimmick? Not really. It's different, but it's a well-designed hole. The remaining 17 holes are also a delight to play. Originally designed by Willard Byrd, the club recently brought Dave Johnson in to make some enhancements to the layout. The results are impressive! After your round, enjoy the course views from the clubhouse grille.

The course is scheduled to open for play February 1st, 2008. Designed by Thomas Walker, the former lead designer for The Gary Player Design Group, The Founder's Club is a visually stunning layout that is challenging yet enjoyable to play. With five sets of tees it allows playability for all skill levels as well as three tees rated for the ladies.

As a tribute to Donald Ross of Dornoch, Scotland, designer Clyde Johnston has created Glen Dornoch, a traditional course that uses the natural terrain of this 270-acre site along the Intracoastal Waterway. Johnston's use of lakes, live oaks, and the surrounding marsh and river make the course as enjoyable to play as it is to look at. Play Glen Dornoch and the experience will be etched in your memory for years.

As the centerpiece of an exclusive resort-residential community, Grande Dunes sets the standard for golf along the Carolina Coast. Local golf developer Larry Young carved the Heritage Club out of 600 acres of former plantation grounds. This terrific layout winds its way along the dark waters of the Waccama River with giant magnolias and 300-year-old oaks dominating the landscape. It's a beautiful setting for a golf course with spacious fairways and undulating greens surrounded by lush stands of camellias and azaleas. However, don't let the beauty fool you. At over 7000 yards from the tips, this track will challenge your best game from the first tee on. The course definitely earns its 4.5-star rating from Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play" for 2006.

Rated three stars by Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play," this challenging Gene Hamm design has water on 15 of 18 holes. There are a number of daunting holes here; however, the course is known best for the 410-yard, par-4 ninth hole, which is part of the Grand Strand's original "Dream 18." Although water is always near, the course plays more open than you'd think with room for the occasional missed drive. Managed by Classic Golf Group, Indian Wells was named "2004 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year."

Nominated by Golf Digest as the "Best Public Golf Course for 1991," this Willard Byrd design is an exciting course winding among creeks and giant oaks. Indigo Creek offers plenty of water, doglegs, and bunkers including one hole with a 90-degree dogleg that crosses the same creek twice. ~ Due to South Carolina Law coolers are allowed, however, they may NOT contain alcohol!

For a sample of all the Grand Strand has to offer at a great value, you can't go wrong with a course managed by the Links Group. These eight clubs provide the full range of Myrtle Beach golf. On the north side of town, play Colonial Charters or Cypress Bay. Burning Ridge and Quail Creek are centrally located, and Indigo Creek, Indian Wells, Island Green, and Sea Gull can all be found on the southern end of the Strand.

The Legends Resorts features three distinct designs on property. The par-71 Heathland, by Tom Doak, is known for its lack of trees and menacing winds. Doak modeled the course after the great seaside links of the British Isles such as Lahinch, Cruden Bay, and St. Anrdews. Although the fairways look wide and inviting from the tee, you'd better keep it straight as deep pot bunkers and thick rough await any wayward shot. In addition, your short game will be challenged by the undulating and well-guarded greens.

Open for play in 1966, Litchfield was among the initial eight courses built on the Grand Strand. Since then, the course has maintained its original features, including player-friendly greenside pathways for bump-and-run approach shots. Ranked one of the "World's 50 Best" by Conde Nast Traveler, the course also boasts mature, tree-lined fairways which wind among the giant oaks and shimmering lakes of a former Carolina rice plantation. This layout is the flagship of the historic plantation courses.

This Jack Nicklaus design is considered one of the most difficult on the Grand Strand. This difficulty stems from the countless large manmade mounds which are particularly lethal near the green; several tricky par 3's, especially the #13 with an island green; many bottomless bunkers surrounding small Bermuda landing surfaces; and a striking horseshoe waste bunker on the #10 signature hole. Players consider #4 the most difficult hole. At 472 yards from the back tees, it features a narrow fairway guarded by waste bunkers on both sides. Players keep coming back, knowing that if they beat this course they can beat the Golden Bear himself.

Rated 3 1/2 stars by Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play," Dan Maples created Man O' War from the depths of a 100-acre lake. Back-to-back island greens, fairways that seem to float on water, and strategically placed trees all combine for a memorable round. Keeping the ball in play is only part of the game plan here as most approach shots are to large bent-grass greens. Your short game will also need to be at its best! The club is found off Route 501, just west of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Just over the North Carolina border you'll find Meadowlands, one of Willard Byrd's best designs. The world-class layout flows through a peaceful setting of meadows, wetlands, and hardwoods. The course itself features well-defined hazards, beautiful fairways, and large contoured greens. One particularly attractive hole is the 432-yard par-four sixth. Be sure to take enough stick on your second shot here as there's a hidden water hazard guarding the green. One tip; bring your best game, this track is tough!

In 1996, the Palmer Design Group transformed the North Course at Myrtle Beach National, arguably the most requested and most recognized course on the beach, into one of the finest courses on the Grand Strand. King's North features some of the most dramatic and unique holes in all of golf. For example, the par-five sixth features an island fairway which offers a "risk-reward" second shot to the green. SouthCreek is a Palmer Course Design gem that winds through a magnificent setting of coastal wetlands and hardwood forests. Although it has the lower course rating and slope of the three courses at Myrtle Beach National, Southcreek demands precision off the tee. At just over 6400 yards, it's a "tricky little course" with numerous waste areas and well-protected bent grass greens. As with all the MBN courses, you'll find SouthCreek to be in great condition year round.

One of the most challenging courses in Myrtle Beach is the beautiful West Course at Myrtle Beach National. From the regular tees, golfers of all abilities will enjoy this classic Arnold Palmer design. But be prepared for a professional challenge from the back, as the numerous doglegs, fairway bunkers and natural hazards come into play. Carved through a majestic Carolina pine forest, the West offers everyone the feel of a private club.

The Palmetto Course continues to impress golfers with its dramatic views and challenging layout. Skirting the scenic Intracoastal Waterway, the course takes full advantage of its magnificent surroundings. Included among South Carolina's top 40 layouts, the Palmetto is renowned for its smooth bentgrass greens, open rolling coastal terrain and signature finishing hole parallel to the beautiful Intracoastal.

PineHills was designed in 1992 on the site of the Pines Course at Myrtlewood, which was the fourth 18-hole design built on the Grand Strand. Arthur Hills transformed this pioneering course into a contemporary design that immediately became a "must play" for resident and visiting golfers alike. Hills design was nominated for Golf Digest's 1994 "Best New Resort Course" and is widely regarded as one of the best maintained courses on the Grand Strand.

Leopard's Chase is the fourth championship course to evolve at Ocean Ridge Plantation, which is planned for a total of 90 holes when their fifth course, Jaguar's Lair completes "The Big Cats". Leopard's Chase combines golf and the scenes of nature to provide a an unforgettable and unique experience for its guests.

The Willard Byrd course at Lion's Paw is considered as one of his finest works to date. Originally opened in 1991, the course continues to mature beautifully and features slick bent-grass greens and lush Penn Cross fairways which cut through Carolina pines and hardwoods. The course received a 3.5-star rating in Golf Digest's latest edition of "Places to Play." Finish your day off in style at Tamer's Restaurant in the property's super clubhouse.

Panther's Run, Tim Cate's first solo design, winds its way along the edge of a nature preserve with dramatic elevation changes. Cate worked for architect Willard Byrd for seven years, but he incorporated his own design philosophy at Panther's Run. Wide, open fairways "twist and turn" to create a course that is as gorgeous to look at as it is to play. Golfers must stay out of (or carry) the surrounding marshland to score well. The club is located just over the border in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Check it out for yourself on your next golf trip.

North Carolina is synonymous with excellent golf, and Tim Cate's 18-hole creation at Tiger's Eye has only added to that long-standing reputation. Carved from a virgin forest, the layout features 60-foot elevation changes, an island par-three, a waterfall, and elaborate landscaping. It's a brilliant design with multiple tees, undulating Bermuda grass fairways, and slick G-2 bent-grass putting surfaces. Tiger's Eye received 4 1/2 stars in the 2006 edition of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play."

A longtime favorite of Myrtle Beach visitors, Oyster Bay is one of Dan Maples' most celebrated golf course designs. Along with developer Larry Young, Maples set out to create a course "where variety and innovation are the name of the game." The course features severe marsh-oriented holes, two island green par threes, beautiful fresh water lakes, and a wonderful combination of both short and long holes. Known for its wickedly undulating greens, Oyster Bay will test your mettle from start to finish.

Both of the Dan Maples' designs at The Pearl Golf Links offer something different for the traveling golfer. The East is carved out of a beautiful forest and has a traditional feel to it. The final holes are particularly exciting as the course finishes out along the Calabash River. It's slightly shorter than Pearl West, but no less demanding. Maples has done some of the best work in Myrtle Beach and Pearl East is no exception.

Wide fairways make Possum Trot an enjoyable experience for the average golfer; however, at 6900 yards from the tips, it is also a great challenge for the low handicapper. Although water comes into play on only a couple of holes, the greens are well protected and require good mid-iron play to score well. Although one of the older courses in Myrtle Beach, this Russell Breeden design continues to be a popular choice for travelers and locals alike.

Prestwick Country Club is classic in design and offers players incomparable looks and challenges. Many consider this Pete and P.B. Dye masterpiece to be one of the finest golf courses on the Grand Strand. It is no wonder Golf Digest chose Prestwick as one of their five best kept secret golf courses in America in 2004. The infamous seventeenth hole, an evil 531-yard par 5, is regarded as one of the most difficult eighteen holes in Myrtle Beach. The course features include dogwood lined fairways, 35-foot berms, alluring wildflowers, timber-rimmed bunkers and pristine lakes and streams. This magnificent layout offers six sets of tees for any caliber of golfer, and plays to a length of 7,058 yards from the tips.

This semi-private club is one of the best in the area and the only course on the south end of the Grand Strand to have bent grass greens. Rated 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play," River Club is best known for its par-five finishing hole. This classic "risk and reward" hole dares you to go for the green in two; what a way to finish!

A pleasant blend of old and new design features, frequent elevation changes, plenty of water, and tall stands of trees make this a more than challenging test of golf. The Tom Jackson design opened in 1989 and was immediately nominated by Golf Digest as "Best New Course." River Hills will keep the best golfers on top of their game the entire round.

This 27-hole layout features recently renovated undulating Champion Ultradwarf greens and tree-lined fairways. Gene Hamm and Tom Jackson created the Fox, Otter, and Bear nines with undulating greens, rolling fairways, large lakes, and finger-shaped bunkers.
