Hosts Dixie Amateur Golf Tournament

Bonaventure Country Club is a semi-private facility located in Weston, about 20 miles due west of Ft. Lauderdale. Unencumbered by residential areas, it's a unique South Florida location for golf. Watch for signs of Florida wildlife including wild parrots, blue herons, and snowy egrets as you make your way around. Although just 6128 yards from the back tees, the par-70 West course has a great selection of par threes (three on each side) and par fives. You probably hear this often, but the layout is perfectly suited for players of all levels.

Designed in 1972 by architects Devlin/Von Hagge, this championship course is maintained to perfection with fast, true greens and contoured fairways. It was redesigned in 1990 by Karl Litten and has played host to the PGA Tour's Honda Classic Qualifier. This interesting layout features water on 17 of 18 holes! Located 20 minutes northwest of Ft. Lauderdale, Carolina Club is a good choice for golfers staying in Ft. Lauderdale, Boca Raton, or West Palm Beach.

Always in fantastic condition, Deer Creek was voted "Best Course in Broward County" by the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel's CityLink Magazine. Redesigned in 2004 by noted architect Arthur Hills, this course is regarded as one of the most challenging in South Florida. Hills' courses always seem to leave a lasting impression and Deer Creek is no different. You'll love the routing of holes with large oaks, rolling hills, and beautifully sculpted greens. Located in Deerfield Beach, the club is easy to get to from Ft. Lauderdale and the Palm Beaches.

Open since 1969, this Devlin/Von Hagge layout received an extensive facelift in the summer of 2000 with many improvements including new TifEagle greens, tees, and bunkers. The ownership continues to improve the course every year, and has since added numerous coquina waste bunkers and native grass plantings to add additional character and challenge to the impeccably maintained layout. The course features generous landing areas for most tee shots, but requires precision approach shots into lightning fast, undulating greens in order to score well. Serious players will absolutely love this amazing track!

Redesigned by Ward Northrup, Grand Palms is 25 minutes southwest of Ft. Lauderdale in Pembroke Pines. This golf resort consists of 27 holes: the Grand, the Royal, and the Sabal. All three nines are maintained in superb condition year round. While fairways are open and gently rolling, sculptured Tifdwarf Bermuda greens ensure fast, smooth putting surfaces.

Heron Bay Golf Club was built for and hosted the PGA TOUR's Honda Classic from 1997 to 2002. PGA Tour veteran and golf course architect Mark McCumber sculpted 18 championship holes through wetlands, canals, and lakes bordering the Florida Everglades. With over 100 bunkers, placement off the tee is vital to a successful round. As one of Florida's first Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Courses, the courses 240 acres feature a wonderful array of wildlife in a spectacular natural setting. Originally opened in 1967 this formerly private Devlin/Von Hagge Design matured into a classic layout. In May 2001 Hillcrest reopened to rave reviews following a highly successful redesign by Joe Lee. "Gentleman Joe" did a superb job of maintaining many classic features of the course, and added mounding, new sand traps, improved tee boxes, new lakes, and entirely different looking TifEagle green complexes. The lush landscaping and pristine lakes will appeal to all discerning golfers. The signature 18th hole provides an exciting and challenging conclusion to every round of golf as it finishes to a tough to hit island green surrounded by a bulkhead.

Jacaranda Golf Club completed a major renovation project on their two courses over the summers of 2005 and 2006 including installation of new irrigation, cart paths, and Sea Dwarf Paspalum tees and fairways. Well known architect, Bobby Weed, was brought in to basically rebuild both original Mark Mahannah designs from the ground up. Completed in 2005, the East is now over 7200 yards from the tips and features interesting collection areas around the greens. Although long, the course also puts an emphasis on your short game. The club is located just west of Ft. Lauderdale in Plantation.

As noted in the description for the East course, Bobby Weed was brought in to update the two courses at Jacaranda. The East was completed in 2005 and the West was ready for play in late 2006. Although the two layouts at Jacaranda are built over similar terrain, they play quite a bit differently from tee to green. The West is more exacting than the East and requires accurate play with both the driver and long irons. Fairways here are framed by tropical foliage and your approach shots will be to elevated greens protected by a variety of hazards. Play both courses at Jacaranda for a great 36-hole combination!

Located just north of Ft. Lauderdale in Pompano Beach, Palm Aire is a 72-hole golf complex. The "mighty" Oaks underwent a $3 million restoration in 1998 by the Fazio design group and has been receiving rave reviews ever since. The Palms originally designed by William Mitchell, in 1959 was remodeled the summer of 1996 by the direction of golf course designers, Karl Litten and Lorie Viola. Woodmont Country Club is a classic South Florida country club that offers 36 holes of championship golf. Since opening in 1974, the club had been completely private and therefore unknown to traveling golfers. However, a recent ownership change included a conversion to semi-private status and the club is now eager for non-member play. Since opening its doors to the public, the club has become one of the most popular venues in the area among local players. The Cypress course is the longer and most often played course of the two on property. From the tips it plays to just over 7,000 yards, and has underwent some recent needed renovations, including re-grassing all eighteen greens to the popular new Champion Bermuda. Anyone planning to play in the Fort Lauderdale area should consider this facility.

The Pines course at Woodmont Country Club is a great test of golf. Although it is the shorter of the two courses, it is a layout that requires solid course management and skillful play. Navigating around this course safely requires playing smart lines, proper club selection, and precision distance control.
